Cocktail
Prepare glass
If desired, chill a coupe or rocks glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you build the drink; then discard ice water before straining.
Add the blanco tequila, fresh lime juice, agave nectar, dry curaçao, and orange bitters to a cocktail shaker.
Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup) and secure the lid.
Shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds, until the shaker is cold and well-chilled and the outside is frosty.
Double-strain the mixture into the chilled coupe or a rocks glass filled with fresh ice (depending on how you like it). Use a fine mesh strainer in addition to the shaker strainer to catch small shards of ice and pulp.
Garnish & Finish
Express the oils of the orange peel over the surface of the cocktail by holding the peel skin-side down 3–4 inches above the drink and giving it a quick squeeze, then rub the peel on the rim if desired.
Drop the expressed orange peel into the drink or flame it briefly (carefully ignite the oil with a lighter and pass quickly over the surface) for a subtle burnt-orange aroma. Alternatively, garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim.
Serve immediately.
