Float components

Method

Assembly

1

Chill glass (optional)

Place a tall glass in the freezer for 10–15 minutes before assembling to help keep the float cold longer. If short on time, skip this step.

2

Add ice (optional)

If using ice, add 3–4 ice cubes to the chilled glass. Note: ice will dilute the soda as it melts; omit for a creamier float.

3

Scoop ice cream

Using a scoop or large spoon, add 2 generous scoops of ice cream to the glass. Pack gently so the scoops sit stacked or side-by-side without overflowing.

4

Pour soda

Slowly pour 10–12 fl oz of cold Coca-Cola down the inside of the glass, aiming to minimize foam overflow. Pour in a steady stream and pause if foam rises too high, letting it settle before continuing. The soda will foam and create the characteristic float head.

5

Top and garnish

If desired, add a dollop (about 2 tbsp) of whipped cream on top of the foam, sprinkle 1 tsp mini chocolate chips or grated chocolate, and place a maraschino cherry on the peak.

6

Serve

Insert a wide straw or long spoon, serve immediately while fizzy and cold. Encourage the drinker to scoop ice cream with the spoon or sip through the straw so they get both soda and creamy ice cream.
