Calpis concentrate

Method

Prepare beverage

1

Measure

Decide how much finished Calpis water you want. The basic ratio is 1 part Calpis concentrate to 4 parts water. For example, for one serving (about 1 cup / 240 ml finished) use 45 ml Calpis concentrate and 180 ml cold water. Adjust quantity proportionally if using different total volume.

2

Mix

In a glass or pitcher, pour the Calpis concentrate first, then add cold water (or sparkling water for a fizzy version). Use the 1:4 ratio. Stir gently until the concentrate is fully incorporated and the mixture is uniform.

3

Adjust sweetness/tang

Taste the mixture. If you prefer sweeter or tangier, adjust by adding a little more concentrate (increase in 1/4-part increments) or more water to dilute. Record adjustments for future reference.

4

Chill and serve

Add ice cubes to the glass if using. Pour the mixed Calpis water over ice. Optionally, lightly squeeze the quarter lemon or lime over the drink and drop the wedge in for a bright citrus note. Garnish with fresh mint leaves if desired.

Notes and variations

5

For a pitcher: multiply ingredients by number of servings (e.g., for 4 servings use 1 cup Calpis concentrate and 4 cups cold water). Stir in a pitcher with plenty of ice or refrigerate until cold. If using sparkling water, mix just before serving to preserve carbonation.

6

For Calpis soda (Japanese-style fizzy drink), use chilled sparkling water instead of still water and pour slowly to retain fizz. Use same 1:4 ratio as a starting point.

7

If using store-bought bottled Calpis water (pre-diluted), serve chilled over ice; no mixing required.
