Calpico (Calpis) Base

Method

Prepare Calpico Base

1

Mix concentrate

If you are using Calpico concentrate: combine 1 cup concentrate with 1 cup cold water in a measuring cup or pitcher. Stir until fully blended. Taste and, if the concentrate is unsweetened or you prefer a sweeter drink, stir in up to 1 tablespoon sugar until dissolved. If you are using ready-made bottled Calpico, skip adding water and sugar — measure 1 cup of the ready-made beverage.

2

Chill

Place the prepared Calpico base in the refrigerator for a few minutes if not already cold, or proceed immediately if chilled.

Assemble Soda

3

Prepare glass

Fill a tall glass with about 1/2 cup (roughly half) ice cubes or to preference.

4

Combine

Pour 1/2 cup of the Calpico base over the ice, then slowly top with 1 cup of carbonated water. Gently stir once or twice to combine without losing too much fizz. For a single serving, the ratio is about 1 part Calpico base to 2 parts soda; adjust to taste by adding more Calpico for a creamier flavor or more soda for a lighter fizz.

5

Garnish and serve

Float a lemon or lime slice on top and add a mint sprig if using. Serve immediately with a straw.
