Method
Gummy Base
Bloom the gelatin
Pour 1 cup cold filtered water into a medium heatproof bowl. Sprinkle 8 tbs unflavored gelatin evenly over the surface. Let sit undisturbed for 5–7 minutes until the gelatin blooms and becomes spongy.
Warm the liquid
In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup pure fruit juice and honey or agave (3 tbs). Warm over low heat until the sweetener is fully dissolved and the liquid is steaming but not boiling (do not exceed a gentle simmer). Stir in the pinch of sea salt.
Melt gelatin into juice
Remove the warm juice from heat. Add the bloomed gelatin to the warm juice in two additions, stirring gently until completely dissolved and smooth (about 1–2 minutes). Avoid vigorous boiling which can degrade gelatin.
Cool slightly
Allow the gelatin mixture to cool for 2–3 minutes off the heat so it is warm but not hot (target roughly 110–120°F / 43–49°C if you have an instant‑read thermometer). This preserves heat‑sensitive components in the colostrum.
Incorporate Colostrum & Flavor
In a separate small bowl, place 1 cup colostrum powder. Add 1 cup cold filtered water and whisk gently to form a slurry, ensuring no lumps remain. This pre‑mix prevents clumping when added to warm liquid.
Slowly whisk the warm (not hot) gelatin/juice mixture into the colostrum slurry in a steady stream. Whisk continuously until fully combined and smooth. If using vitamin C powder, add 1 tsp now and whisk to dissolve.
Stir in 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice and 1 tsp vanilla extract (if using). Taste and adjust sweetness — add up to 1 tbs extra honey/agave if desired, whisking until incorporated.
Molding & Finish
Lightly oil your silicone gummy molds with 1 tsp coconut or neutral oil using a paper towel to coat — this helps unmold cleanly. Alternatively use a silicone candy mat or small ice cube tray.
Working quickly, use a dropper, small measuring cup, or spoon to fill molds with the colostrum gelatin mixture. Tap the mold gently on the counter to remove air bubbles and level the tops.
Refrigerate the filled molds uncovered or lightly covered for at least 1.5–2 hours, or until gummies are firm to the touch. For best texture, chill 3 hours. Do not freeze — rapid freezing can change gelatin texture and potentially affect bioactive components.
Once set, unmold gummies by popping them out of silicone molds. If desired, toss lightly in 2 tsp extra colostrum powder or a mixture of powdered colostrum and a little cornstarch to prevent sticking (optional). Store gummies in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 10–14 days.
