Method
Prepare Banana
Peel and inspect
Peel the ripe banana and discard the peel. Inspect the banana for any bruised or overly soft spots; trim these away with a small knife so only firm, even-textured fruit remains.
Slice
Place the banana on a cutting board and slice it into coins about 1/4-inch (6 mm) thick. Slices make it easier to eat and measure portions.
Prevent browning (optional)
If you are not eating immediately, lightly toss the slices with the lemon juice (about 1 tsp). This prevents oxidation and keeps the banana looking fresh without adding sugar.
Serve and Flavor (optional low-sugar variations)
Simple plain
Serve the sliced banana plain as a single-fruit low-sugar snack. Eat immediately for best texture and flavor.
Cinnamon yogurt topping
For a touch of flavor without added sugar, dollop 2 tablespoons plain Greek yogurt over the banana slices and sprinkle 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon on top. This adds creaminess and a sense of sweetness without adding sugar.
Crunchy nut garnish
If you want a bit of texture, sprinkle 1 tablespoon chopped unsalted nuts (walnut or almond) over the banana (with or without the yogurt). Nuts add healthy fats and protein while keeping the overall sugar content low.
