Method

Cocktail

1

Combine and shake

Add rye whiskey, fresh lime juice, orange curaçao, orgeat, simple syrup and Angostura bitters into a cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup) to properly chill and dilute.

2

Shake vigorously

Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 12–18 seconds until the outside of the shaker becomes frosty and well chilled. The vigorous shake aerates the orgeat and helps integrate the ingredients.

3

Prepare glass

If serving over crushed ice, fill a double old‑fashioned glass or tiki mug with crushed ice. If serving straight up, chill a coupe or rocks glass and strain over fresh ice.

4

Double strain and serve

Double-strain the contents of the shaker into the prepared glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove small ice shards and any pulp from the lime juice.

Garnish

5

Gently slap the mint sprig between your palms to release its aroma and place it on top of the drink. Add a lime wheel or wedge to the rim or float it on top.
