Bottles & Cans (Beer / Cider) - Per Serving / Bottle

Method

Bottles & Cans (Beer / Cider) - Serving Instructions

  1. 1

    Chill bottle or can

Make sure your bottled beer or cider is well chilled (ideally 40–45°F / 4–7°C). Place in refrigerator for several hours or in an ice bath for 20–30 minutes.

  2. 2

    Chill glass (optional)

If using a glass, fill it with ice water and let it sit for 1–2 minutes, then discard the water and quickly dry. Alternatively, place glass in freezer for 15–30 minutes ahead of serving.

  3. 3

    Prepare rim (optional)

If you like a salted rim (for beers served with lime), rub a lime wedge around the rim of the glass then dip the rim into a shallow plate of salt. Tap off excess.

  4. 4

    Add ice (if desired)

If you prefer your beer/cider extra cold or serving in a cooler-style pint, add 1 cup of fresh ice to the glass or to the cooler container. Note: adding ice will dilute as it melts and is not traditional for most beers.

  5. 5

    Open bottle or can

Hold bottle/can upright and use a bottle opener or pull tab to open. If using a bottle and you want to avoid excess foam, open gently and keep upright.

  6. 6

    Pour (optional)

If serving in a glass: tilt the glass to a 45° angle and pour the beer/cider gently down the side until roughly two-thirds full; then straighten glass and pour into the center to create a 1/2" to 1" head (foam). For cans, pour similarly or drink directly from can if preferred.

  7. 7

    Garnish/finish

If using a citrus wedge, squeeze lightly over the surface and drop into the glass or rest on the rim. For flavored ciders, no garnish is usually necessary.

  8. 8

    Serve

Serve immediately while cold. Provide a coaster or napkin to catch condensation.
