This is an American Style IPA from Founders Brewing Company in Michigan. It has an ABV of 4.7% and tastes of malt, grain, and hops.

A solid balanced IPA with hop flavors and a sweet malty backbone.

In a large mash tun, heat 3 gallons of water to approximately 165°F (74°C). Add the crushed Pale Malt, Crystal Malt, and Carapils Malt, stirring to ensure there are no dry clumps. Allow the mixture to rest for 60 minutes at 152°F (67°C).

Prepare the Mash

After the mash, sparge with an additional 2 gallons of hot water (170°F or 77°C) to collect around 6 gallons of wort for the boil.

Sparging

Bring the wort to a boil and then add the Cascade Hops. Boil for 60 minutes.

Bring to Boil

After 30 minutes of boiling, add the Centennial Hops. With 15 minutes remaining, add the Amarillo Hops and Simcoe Hops.

Add Hops at Intervals

After the boil is complete, cool the wort quickly using a wort chiller or by placing the kettle in an ice bath until it reaches approximately 70°F (21°C).

Cool the Wort

Transfer the cooled wort to a sanitized fermentation vessel. Add the packet of American Ale Yeast and seal the vessel with an airlock.

Transfer to Fermenter

Allow the beer to ferment at room temperature for about 1-2 weeks, or until fermentation activity has ceased.

Fermentation

Once fermentation is complete, prepare a bottling bucket with priming sugar dissolved in a small amount of water to carbonate the beer.

Prepare for Bottling

Siphon the beer into sanitized bottles, leaving about an inch of headspace. Cap the bottles and store them at room temperature for carbonation.

Bottle the Beer

Allow the beer to condition for at least 1-2 weeks before chilling and enjoying.
