Whiskey & Mixers

Method

Prepare Glass & Ice

  1. 1

    Chill and ice

Place a large ice cube (or several fresh ice cubes) into an old-fashioned glass. If you prefer your bourbon slightly diluted and tempered, add 1/4 oz (about 7 ml) distilled water to the glass now; otherwise skip the water.

  2. 2

If using an orange peel garnish, have the peel ready by cutting a 1.5–2-inch strip of zest, avoiding too much white pith.

Build the Drink

  1. 3

    Measure and pour

Using a jigger, measure 2 oz of Booker’s Small Batch bourbon and pour it into the glass over the ice.

  2. 4

Stir to chill and dilute (optional)

If you added distilled water earlier or want a bit more gentle dilution, stir the bourbon and ice gently with a mixing spoon for about 10–15 seconds to cool and integrate flavors. If you skipped water and prefer the spirit neat over ice, you can skip stirring or stir briefly (5–8 seconds).

Garnish & Finish

  1. 5

    Express the orange peel

Hold the orange peel over the drink with the outer (orange) side facing down. Give it a quick firm twist to express the citrus oils over the surface of the bourbon, then run the peel around the glass rim and drop it into the drink or discard, per preference.

  2. 6

Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate Booker’s high-proof, full-flavored character. If desired, serve a small carafe of chilled water on the side for additional dilution to taste.
