Base & Citrus

Method

Prepare Mug & Ice

1

Chill a copper mug briefly in the freezer or fill it with ice to cool while you prepare the other ingredients. If you used ice to chill the mug, discard that ice before building the cocktail.

2

Fill the chilled copper mug about three-quarters full with crushed ice or ice cubes (about 1 cup).

Build the Cocktail

3

Add Spirit and Lime

Measure 2 oz of your chosen spirit (vodka is classic; gin, tequila, or light rum are good alternatives). Pour it into the mug over the ice. Add 0.5 oz fresh lime juice (about half a lime).

4

Top with Ginger Beer

Slowly pour 4 oz chilled ginger beer into the mug to preserve carbonation. Stir gently once or twice with a bar spoon to combine the spirit, lime and ginger beer without flattening it.

5

Optional Bitters

If using, add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters on top and give one gentle stir to distribute a hint of spice and color.

Garnish & Serve

6

Garnish with a lime wedge on the rim and optionally a sprig of fresh mint tucked into the ice for aroma.

7

Serve immediately in the copper mug with a straw or short stirring spoon. Sip and enjoy.
