Cocktail

1

Chill glass

If desired, chill a Collins glass (or highball) by filling it with ice and cold water while you prepare the cocktail. Empty before pouring.

2

Combine base ingredients

Add 2 oz Maker's Mark bourbon, 1 oz fresh lemon juice, and 0.75 oz simple syrup to a cocktail shaker filled halfway with ice.

3

Shake

Shake vigorously for about 10–12 seconds until the shaker is cold to the touch and the ingredients are well combined and slightly diluted.

4

Prepare glass and add ice

Discard the chilling water from the Collins glass (if used) and fill the glass with fresh cubed ice (about 1 cup).

5

Strain and top

Double-strain the shaken mixture into the prepared glass over the ice. Top gently with approximately 3 oz club soda. Stir once lightly with a bar spoon to incorporate the soda without losing too much fizz.

6

Garnish and serve

Garnish with a lemon wheel or a lemon twist perched on the rim. Optionally add a maraschino cherry. Serve with a straw if desired.

7

Simple syrup note

If you don't have simple syrup, dissolve equal parts granulated sugar and hot water (for example 1/4 cup sugar + 1/4 cup water), cool before using. Use 0.75 oz of this syrup in the recipe.
