Method

Cooking Pasta

1

Boil the Pasta

In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add a pinch of salt.

2

Cook the Pasta

Add the macaroni pasta and cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Making Cheese Sauce

3

Melt Butter

In the same pot used for pasta, melt 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.

4

Add Flour

Whisk in 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour and cook for 2-3 minutes until lightly golden.

5

Add Milk

Gradually pour in 2 cups of milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Bring to a simmer.

6

Add Cheese and Seasoning

Stir in 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 1 teaspoon of mustard powder until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.

Combining and Baking (optional)

7

Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the cooked macaroni pasta to the cheese sauce and stir until well combined.

8

Prepare Topping

If desired, mix together 1 cup of breadcrumbs, 1 tablespoon of grated Parmesan cheese, and paprika in a small bowl.

9

Bake

Transfer the mac and cheese to a baking dish, sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture on top, and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
