Cactus Bloom Cocktail Base

Method

Prepare Glass & Rim

1

Rim the glass

Choose a highball or Collins glass. Rub a lime wedge around the rim of the glass, then dip the rim into a shallow plate of coarse salt or tajin to coat evenly. Set the glass aside to dry slightly while you prepare the cocktail.

Mix Cocktail Base

2

Combine spirits and syrups

In a cocktail shaker, add 6 tablespoons blanco tequila, 2 tablespoons mezcal, 1 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz agave syrup, 0.75 oz prickly pear (cactus) syrup, and 0.5 oz orange liqueur. Fill the shaker 2/3 with ice.

3

Shake

Shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker feels very cold and slightly frosted. This chills and dilutes the ingredients to balance sweetness and acidity.

Assemble & Finish

4

Strain and add ice

Fill the rimmed glass with fresh ice (cubes or crushed, according to preference). Double-strain the shaken cocktail into the prepared glass over the ice to remove small ice chips and pulp.

5

Top with sparkle

Gently top the cocktail with 2 oz chilled sparkling water or club soda. Give the drink one short, gentle stir (1–2 rotations) to integrate the soda without losing effervescence.

6

Garnish and serve

Float an edible flower or a thinly sliced small cactus pad on the surface and add a lime wheel to the rim. Serve immediately with a cocktail straw or stirrer.
