Sparkling Cocktail Base

Method

Sparkling Cocktail Base

  1. 1

    Prepare glass

Chill a champagne flute or white wine glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice and cold water for 1–2 minutes to cool. Discard the ice/water before building the drink.

  2. 2

    Add Aperol

Pour 1 oz Aperol into the chilled glass.

  3. 3

    Top with Prosecco

Carefully pour 6 oz well-chilled Prosecco down the side of the glass to preserve bubbles. Pour slowly to avoid overflow.

  4. 4

    Adjust with sparkling water (optional)

If you prefer a lighter, less sweet drink, add 1 oz chilled dry sparkling water and gently stir once with a bar spoon to combine. Do not over-stir to keep effervescence.

Citrus & Garnish

  1. 5

Express the orange: hold an orange wheel or twist over the glass and give it a quick squeeze to spray the oils onto the surface of the drink, then drop the wheel into the glass as garnish. If using a lemon twist for aroma, run it around the rim before adding it to the glass.

Ice & Tools

  1. 6

If you used a wine glass and prefer the drink cold with ice, add 2–3 large ice cubes to the glass before adding the Aperol and Prosecco. For a clean, traditional sparkle presentation, serve without ice in a chilled flute.
