Cold Brew Concentrate
Finishing and Serving
Nitro Infusion
Method
Cold Brew Concentrate
- 1
Combine coffee and water
In a large jar or container, add 1 cup coarsely ground coffee. Pour 4 cups cold filtered water over the grounds, ensuring all grounds are fully saturated. Stir gently to make sure there are no dry pockets.
- 2
Steep
Cover the container and steep at room temperature or in the refrigerator for 16 to 20 hours. Longer steeping (up to 24 hours) yields a stronger concentrate; shorter (12–16) will be milder.
- 3
Filter
After steeping, strain the coffee through a fine mesh sieve lined with cheesecloth, a nut milk bag, or a paper coffee filter into a clean container. If using a sieve + cheesecloth, strain a second time for clarity. Press gently to extract liquid without forcing fine sediments through.
- 4
Optional dilution
Taste the resulting concentrate. If it’s too strong for your preference, dilute with up to 1/2 cup cold filtered water, mixing until you reach your desired strength. Chill the concentrate in the refrigerator until cold (several hours) before nitro infusion.

Prepare nitro system
If using a countertop nitro dispenser (cream whipper style), chill the dispenser and the cold brew thoroughly. Charge the dispenser with one nitrogen (N2) cartridge according to the manufacturer's instructions. If using a kegerator/nitro keg system, ensure the keg is chilled and the line is purged and set to 30–40 psi on the nitrogen regulator (follow your system's guidance).
- 6
Infuse
Pour the cold brew concentrate into the nitro dispenser or keg, leaving some headspace. Charge with nitrogen. For a cream whipper: shake gently 3–5 times after charging, then let settle for 30–60 seconds. For a nitro keg: allow the keg to settle under pressure for at least 12–24 hours for the best crema and mouthfeel.
- 7
Test pour
Dispense a small amount to test the cascade and creamy head. A proper nitro cold brew will pour with a cascading effect and form a thick, velvety foam on top.
Finishing and Serving
- 8
Serve straight from tap (recommended)
Hold a chilled glass at about a 45° angle and dispense the nitro cold brew. Aim for a slow pour to encourage the nitrogen cascade and a thick head. Let the head settle for 10–20 seconds before serving.
- 9
Serve over ice (optional)
If you prefer iced nitro cold brew, fill a glass with 1 cup ice. Pour the nitro cold brew over the ice more gently—note that pouring directly over a lot of ice will reduce the creamy head. Add up to 1/2 cup milk or milk alternative and up to 2 tsp simple syrup if desired. Stir lightly.
- 10
Storage
Store any unused cold brew concentrate in the refrigerator in a sealed container for up to 7–10 days. If using a keg, keep it chilled and under nitrogen pressure; consume within 2–3 weeks for best flavor.
