If the bottle has been stored at room temperature, chill it slightly to about 55-60°F (13-16°C) for optimal red serving temperature. If already at cellar temperature (55-60°F), proceed. Inspect the bottle for sediment and ensure the cork is intact.

Using a waiter’s corkscrew or other cork remover, cut foil cleanly just below the lip, remove foil, then insert the screw into the cork and gently remove. Wipe the bottle lip with a clean cloth or napkin to remove any cork dust or debris.

Pour the wine slowly into a decanter, watching for sediment. If the bottle is young and tight, decant for up to 45 minutes; if mature and clear, skip decanting to preserve delicate aromatics.

Pour 4–6 ounces (120–180 ml) per glass. Hold the glass by the stem to avoid warming the wine. Fill to the widest part of the bowl so the aromas concentrate near the rim.
