Measure and pour
Using a jigger, pour 1 oz dry gin, 1/2 oz sweet vermouth, 1/2 oz orange curaçao, 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice, and 1/4 oz simple syrup into the cocktail shaker.
- 3
Add bitters
Add 2 dashes of orange bitters and 1 dash of Angostura bitters to the shaker.
- 4
Add ice and shake
Add large ice cubes to the shaker (about 6 pieces). Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is well chilled and slightly frosted. This both dilutes and properly chills the drink.
- 5
- 6
Double strain and serve
Open the shaker and strain the cocktail through a Hawthorne strainer and then a fine mesh strainer into the chilled coupe. Double-straining removes small ice shards and any pulp from the lemon juice for a clean, silky texture.
- 7
Garnish
Express an orange twist over the surface of the cocktail by holding the twist skin-side down above the drink and giving it a quick twist to release oils. Rub the rim of the glass with the twist (optional), then drop the twist into the drink as a garnish.
- 8
Serve
Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the balance of herbal gin, sweet vermouth, orange curaçao and bright lemon, with the bitters adding depth.

Use the jigger to measure accurately. Use a peeler or small knife to cut a 1-inch orange twist (avoid too much pith). Use the shaker and strainers as directed above.
