Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Chill glass

Place a coupe or chilled Nick & Nora glass in the freezer for several minutes, or fill it with ice and water while you build the cocktail.

  2. 2

    Combine ingredients

In a mixing glass, add 2 oz blended Scotch, 0.75 oz sweet vermouth, 0.25 oz Drambuie, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters.

  3. 3

    Add ice and stir

Fill the mixing glass with large ice cubes. Stir gently but thoroughly for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 rotations) until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted (target temperature ~0–4°C).

  4. 4

    Prepare glass

If you used ice water to chill the serving glass, dump it now and quickly dry the glass.

  5. 5

    Strain and garnish

Strain the cocktail through a julep or Hawthorne strainer into the chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass. Express a lemon peel over the drink by holding it skin-side down above the glass and giving it a quick twist to spray oils onto the surface, then rub the rim with the peel and drop it in (or thread on a pick).

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve immediately. The Bobby Burns is meant to be sipped slowly.

Tools & Ice

  1. 7

Keep additional ice on hand for stirring and chilling. Use a mixing spoon and appropriate strainer. If you prefer a slightly sweeter drink, increase Drambuie to 0.5 oz or reduce Scotch by 0.25 oz; adjust proportions before serving.
