Cocktail
Chill glass
Place an old-fashioned glass or rocks glass in the freezer for 5β10 minutes, or fill it with ice water while you prepare the drink to chill it.
Combine ingredients
In a mixing glass or cocktail shaker, add 2 oz Caol Ila single malt Scotch, 0.25 oz simple syrup, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.25 oz dry vermouth, and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.
Stir and chill
Fill the mixing glass with plenty of ice, then stir gently for 20β30 seconds (about 15β20 full strokes) until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted.
Prepare serving glass
If you chilled your serving glass with ice water, dump the water and add a large ice cube (or a few large cubes). If it was in the freezer, just add a large ice cube.
Serve
Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the smoky/peaty character of the Caol Ila balanced with citrus, a hint of sweetness, and vermouth complexity.
