Cocktail

Method

Prep & Glass

  1. 1

    Salt the rim

Rub a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks or coupe glass. Pour the coarse salt onto a small plate and press the rim lightly into the salt to coat. Set the glass aside.

  2. 2

If you prefer no salt, skip the rubbing and salting step and simply chill the glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes.

Mixing

  1. 3

    Combine ingredients

In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz 3 Amigos blanco tequila, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.25 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.5 oz agave syrup, and 0.5 oz orange liqueur (if using).

  2. 4

    Add ice

Fill the shaker with about 1 cup of ice, enough to chill and properly dilute the cocktail.

  3. 5

    Shake

Secure the shaker and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds, until the outside of the shaker becomes very cold and you hear the ice slush inside.

  4. 6

    Strain

Double-strain the mixture (optional fine mesh) into the prepared salt-rimmed glass over fresh ice for a rocks-style margarita or without ice into a chilled coupe for a neat presentation.

Finish & Serve

  1. 7

Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim and, if desired, add a lemon twist for extra citrus aroma. Serve immediately.
