Smoothie Base

Method

Smoothie Base

1

Prepare greens and fruit

Rinse the spinach and kale thoroughly under cold water. Pat dry or spin in a salad spinner. Remove and discard tough kale stems. Peel and break the banana into 1–2 inch chunks. If using large strawberries, quarter them so pieces blend evenly.

2

Add the spinach, kale, banana chunks, and mixed berries to the blender. Place softer items (banana, berries) closest to the blade for smoother blending.

Liquid & Texture

3

Pour in 1 cup cold water and 1/2 cup almond milk. Add 4 ice cubes if using fresh berries and you want a chilled, thicker texture. If using frozen berries, omit ice or add 1–2 cubes only as needed.

4

If you prefer a creamier smoothie, add 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt now.

Boosters & Flavor

5

Squeeze in 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice to brighten flavors. Add 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup if you want extra sweetness. Sprinkle in 1 teaspoon chia seeds for added fiber and texture (optional).

Blending & Serving

6

Blend

Secure the blender lid. Start blending on low speed for 10–15 seconds to combine, then increase to high and blend 30–60 seconds until the mixture is completely smooth and no leafy strands remain. Stop and scrape down the sides once if needed, then blend again for 10–20 seconds.

7

Adjust consistency & sweetness

If the smoothie is too thick, add 2 tablespoons to 1/4 cup more water or almond milk and pulse to combine. Taste and add up to 1 more teaspoon honey or maple syrup if desired, then blend briefly to incorporate.

8

Serve

Pour the smoothie into a glass. Optionally garnish with a few whole berries or a small spinach leaf. Serve immediately for best texture and flavor.
