Method
Base (applies to all flavors)
Prep equipment
Chill two tall glasses in the refrigerator or freezer for 5–10 minutes if you like a colder presentation. Make sure your blender is clean and dry.
Add 3 scoops vanilla ice cream to the blender.
If you want an extra-thick or colder shake, add 3 ice cubes. Note: ice will dilute texture slightly as it blends.
Secure lid and pulse once to break up the ice and soften ingredients, then blend on medium-high for 20–30 seconds until smooth and creamy. Stop and scrape down sides once if necessary.
Vanilla Shake
To the blended base, add 1 tsp vanilla extract and 1 tsp granulated sugar if you want it sweeter.
Blend on low for 5–10 seconds just to combine and maintain a fluffy texture. Taste and adjust sweetness or vanilla if desired.
Pour into chilled glass. Top with about 2 tbs whipped cream and finish with vanilla bean scrapings or a maraschino cherry, if using.
Chocolate Shake
Before blending the base or after the initial pulse, add 2 tbs unsweetened cocoa powder and 2 tbs chocolate syrup into the blender. If you prefer sweeter or more intense chocolate, add the optional 1 tsp sugar.
Blend on medium-high for 25–35 seconds until cocoa is fully incorporated and no streaks remain. Scrape down the sides and blend another 5 seconds if needed.
Pour into chilled glass. Top with 2 tbs whipped cream and garnish with chocolate shavings and a maraschino cherry if desired.
Strawberry Shake
If using fresh strawberries, hull and slice them. For best texture, macerate fresh berries with 1 tbs strawberry jam (or syrup) and 1 tsp lemon juice for 5–10 minutes to release juices. If using frozen strawberries, thaw slightly for easier blending.
Add 1 cup strawberries and 1 tbs jam/syrup (if using) to the blender with the base ingredients. Add the 1 tsp lemon juice to brighten flavor if desired.
Blend on medium-high for 30–40 seconds until smooth and uniformly pink, scraping down sides once if needed. If the shake is too thick, add up to 1/4 cup additional milk and blend briefly.
Pour into chilled glass. Top with 2 tbs whipped cream and garnish with a fresh strawberry slice and a maraschino cherry if desired.
Serve and store
Serve immediately with a wide straw and long spoon. Milkshakes are best fresh; small leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 24 hours and will separate—stir and re-blend briefly before serving.
Adjust sweetness, thickness, and garnishes per taste. For a thinner shake, add milk; for a thicker shake, add more ice cream or a few frozen fruit pieces.
