1

Preheat glass

Preheat a heatproof Irish coffee glass (8–10 oz capacity) by filling it with hot water. Let sit 30 seconds, then discard the water and dry the glass. This keeps the drink warm longer.

2

Brew coffee

Brew 6 oz of strong hot coffee immediately before making the cocktail. Use a medium-dark roast for best flavor and keep it piping hot.

3

Combine whiskey and sugar

Add 1 tsp brown sugar to the warmed glass. Pour in 1.5 oz Jameson Irish Whiskey, then add a small splash (about 1 oz) of the hot coffee and stir until the sugar is fully dissolved. This ensures no graininess in the finished drink.

4

Add remaining coffee

Pour the remaining hot coffee into the glass, filling to about 3/4 full (roughly 6 oz total coffee including the splash used to dissolve sugar). Stir gently to combine.

5

Top with cream

Lightly whip 2 tablespoons of heavy cream until it holds soft peaks but is still pourable. Gently pour the cream over the back of a warm spoon held just above the surface of the coffee so the cream floats as a distinct layer on top.

6

Serve

Do not stir after adding the cream. Serve hot with a small long-handled spoon so the drinker can sip the hot coffee through the cream or gently break the layer. Enjoy immediately.
