Chocolate Milk

Method

Chocolate Milk

1

Make chocolate paste

Place the unsweetened cocoa powder and granulated sugar in a small bowl or measuring cup. Add the hot water (about 2 tablespoons) and whisk or stir vigorously until you have a smooth, lump-free paste. The hot water helps dissolve the cocoa and sugar for a smooth chocolate base.

2

Combine with milk

Pour 2 cups of cold whole milk into a large glass, pitcher, or shaker. Add the chocolate paste and the pinch of salt. Whisk vigorously until the chocolate is fully incorporated and the mixture is uniform and slightly frothy. Alternatively, pour into a lidded jar or cocktail shaker and shake for 20–30 seconds.

3

Add flavor

Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to enhance the chocolate flavor. Taste and adjust sweetness: add an extra 1/2–1 teaspoon sugar if you prefer sweeter chocolate milk, mixing again until dissolved.

4

Serve

If you prefer cold, add 4 ice cubes to a serving glass and pour the chocolate milk over them. Serve immediately. For a creamier version, substitute part of the milk with half-and-half or use a higher-fat milk.
