Cocktail

Method

Preparation

1

Chill glass

Place an old-fashioned or rocks glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes, or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to chill the glass.

2

Measure and prep

Measure Kahlúa, vodka, Baileys, cold-brew coffee (or chilled espresso), and simple syrup if using. Have heavy cream and ice ready.

Mixing

3

Combine base spirits

Add ice to a cocktail shaker until half full (about 1 cup cubed ice). Pour in 1.5 oz Kahlúa, 1.0 oz vodka, 1.0 oz Baileys, and 1.0 oz cold-brew coffee or chilled espresso. If you want the drink a touch sweeter, add 0.25 oz simple syrup.

4

Shake

Secure the shaker top and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is frosty and the ingredients are well combined and chilled.

5

Strain

Discard the ice water from the chilled glass (if used). Strain the shaken cocktail into the chilled rocks glass over fresh ice (use 2–3 large cubes).

6

Float cream

Gently pour 0.5 oz heavy cream (or half-and-half) over the back of a spoon held just above the surface of the cocktail to create a light cream float. It will add a silky layer without fully mixing in (you can stir if desired).

Garnish & Serve

7

Lightly grate a small pinch (about 0.1 tsp) of fresh nutmeg or dust with cocoa powder over the cream float. Optionally drop 2 whole coffee beans on top for presentation. Serve immediately with a short stirring spoon or straw so the drinker can blend the cream if they like.
