Base spirit (choose one)

Citrus & modifier

Garnish (seasonal)

Method

Base spirit (choose one)

1

Measure spirit

Select one base spirit (gin, vodka, or bourbon). Measure 1.5 oz and pour into a cocktail shaker or mixing glass.

Citrus & modifier

2

Add citrus and sweetener

Add 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice and 0.5 oz fresh lime juice (or adjust to taste) and 0.5 oz simple syrup to the shaker. Fresh juice is recommended for brightness.

Seasonal flavor (choose one)

3

Prepare seasonal flavor — berries

If using fresh berries or puree: muddle 3–5 small berries (or 0.5 oz puree) gently in the shaker to release juices before adding spirits and citrus. If using berry puree, add it with the citrus and syrup.

4

Prepare seasonal flavor — herbs

If using herbs (mint, basil, rosemary): clap 4 leaves between your hands to release oils, then add to shaker. For delicate herbs like mint, gently slap; for woody herbs like rosemary, bruise once then add.

5

Adjust for bourbon

If using bourbon as the base, omit lime juice or reduce lemon to 0.5 oz to keep balance; consider adding 2 dashes Angostura bitters with the citrus and syrup.

Mixing & chilling

6

Dry shake (if used puree or egg white)

If you used a puree or egg white (optional), dry shake (no ice) vigorously for 10–15 seconds to emulsify.

7

Shake with ice

Add a large handful of ice to the shaker. Shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the shaker is cold to the touch and well diluted.

8

Strain

Double strain through a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer into your chosen glass (rocks glass for short cocktails, coupe for up or martini-style, highball with ice if topped with soda).

Top & finish

9

Optional top

If serving long, top with 1 oz club soda or sparkling water. For a spirit-forward short drink, leave un-topped.

10

Bitters

Add 2 dashes Angostura bitters on top if desired (especially with bourbon base) and lightly stir if you added soda.

Garnish (seasonal)

11

Garnish and serve

Garnish with a fresh herb sprig and a fruit slice or twist. Express a citrus peel over the drink to release oils then discard or drop into the glass. Serve immediately.
