Preparation
Prepare the Pears
Wash and core the pears, then chop them into small pieces. You should have about 4 cups of chopped pears.
Combine Ingredients
In a large pot, combine the chopped pears, 1 cup of water, and 2 cups of apple juice.
Cooking
Simmer the Mixture
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce to a simmer. Let it cook for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally until the pears are soft.
Strain the Mixture
After 30 minutes, remove the pot from heat and strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a clean pot or container, discarding the solids.
Cool and Ferment
Allow the strained liquid to cool to room temperature. Once cooled, sprinkle 1 tsp of cider yeast over the surface and gently stir to incorporate.
Fermentation Process
Cover the container with a clean cloth and let it sit at room temperature for 1 to 2 weeks, stirring gently every few days. The cider should start to ferment and bubble.
Bottling
Bottle the Cider
Once fermentation has completed, bottle the cider in clean bottles, leaving some space at the top. Seal with caps.
Carbonate the Cider
Let the bottled cider sit at room temperature for another week to carbonate before refrigerating.
