Preparation Steps
Prepare the Holy Trinity
In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and celery (the holy trinity) and sauté until the vegetables are softened, about 5-7 minutes.
Add Garlic and Crawfish
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute. Add the crawfish tails, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Cook for about 5 minutes, until heated through.
Prepare the Bread
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the Leidenheimer loaf in half lengthwise. Place the halves on a baking sheet.
Assemble the Zombie Bread
Spread the crawfish mixture evenly over the cut sides of the bread. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese generously on top.
Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the bread is toasted.
Garnish and Serve
Remove from the oven, garnish with chopped green onions, slice into pieces, and serve warm.
