Cocktail
- 1
Chill glass
Place a rocks glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to cool the glass.
- 2
Combine ingredients
In a mixing glass, add 1 oz Pusser's rum, 1 oz Johnnie Walker Black, 0.25 oz Fernet, 0.5 oz PX sherry, 1 dash Angostura bitters and (optional) 0.25 tsp simple syrup. The small amount of simple syrup is optional—use only if you want a touch more sweetness to balance the bitter Fernet and rich PX.
- 3
Stir with ice
Fill the mixing glass with plenty of ice and stir gently for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 revolutions) until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted. The goal is clarity and silkiness, not aeration.
- 4
Prepare serving glass
Discard the ice water from the chilled rocks glass (if used) and place a single large ice cube or a few fresh ice cubes into the glass.
- 5
Strain and finish
Strain the stirred cocktail into the prepared rocks glass over the large ice cube. Express an orange peel over the drink to release oils (hold peel skin‑side down about 3–4 inches above the surface and give a firm twist), then rub the peel around the rim and drop it into the glass as garnish.
- 6
Serve
Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the interplay of the navy rum and smoky scotch with the bitter herbs of Fernet and the raisiny sweetness of PX.
