Match 1 — Quick Sprint (15-minute Blitz)

Method

Match 1 — Quick Sprint (15-minute Blitz)

1

Setup

Choose 3 players from each team. Mark a small playing area suitable for a fast-paced game (e.g., 1/3 of a normal field or a half-court). Place the ball or appropriate game token in the starting center.

2

Objective

Score as many points as possible within 15 minutes using quick turnovers and short plays. Define how a point is scored before starting (goal, basket, touchline, capture, etc.).

3

Play

Start the 15-minute timer. Teams play standard simplified rules for your chosen sport to encourage fast scoring (e.g., no prolonged stalls, immediate restart on out-of-bounds). Substitute players between plays only during stoppages. The referee enforces safe, fair play.

4

Scoring & End

When time expires, the referee records the final score on the scoreboard. Note each team’s points to compile an aggregate for the triathlon.

Match 2 — Relay Challenge (20-minute Relay)

5

Setup

Form relay teams of 4 from each side (can be mixed or substituted from Match 1). Lay out relay lanes or mark four sequential stations. Provide one baton per heat. Decide whether relay will be single-lap, multi-lap, sprint-plus-skill (e.g., run then dribble or complete a task).

6

Objective

Complete as many successful relay legs as possible in 20 minutes. Each completed leg equals one point for the team (or assign points per leg as agreed).

7

Play

Start the 20-minute timer and the first heat. Each runner completes their station and passes the baton within the exchange zone. If the baton is dropped, standard penalty is a time loss — allow retrieval but no restarting of the leg. Rotate through team members repeatedly until time expires.

8

Scoring & End

At time expiration, count completed legs for each team and record on the scoreboard. Break ties for the triathlon only if necessary by fastest single-leg time or proceed to tie-break rules below.

Match 3 — Strategy Game (25-minute Tactical Round)

9

Setup

Choose a tactical game appropriate to your group (e.g., small-sided soccer with strategic restrictions, territory-control game, or a board/miniatures scenario). Select 5 players per team. Prepare the necessary pieces and explain special rules and scoring method before starting.

10

Objective

Use coordination and strategy to outscore the opponent within 25 minutes. Award points for objectives captured, territory controlled, goals scored or other agreed tasks.

11

Play

Start the 25-minute timer. Encourage teams to assign roles (defender, attacker, coordinator). The referee enforces rules and keeps time. Allow short strategy timeouts (1 minute) once per team if desired.

12

Scoring & End

When time is up, the referee tallies objective points and records them. Add these points to the previous two matches to determine the triathlon total per team.

General & Tie-break

13

Refereeing & Safety

Appoint a referee or moderator to enforce rules, stop play for injuries, and keep an accurate scoreboard. Keep a first aid kit and water available for player safety and hydration.

14

Aggregating Scores

After all three matches, add each team’s scores from Match 1, Match 2, and Match 3. The team with the higher total wins the Team Triathlon.

15

Tie-break Procedures

If teams tie on aggregate, run a sudden-death mini-game: choose a short 5-minute skill shootout or one-lap sprint with one player from each team. Prepare a tie-break token or mini-game materials in advance. The winner of the mini-game wins the triathlon. If still tied after one mini-game, repeat sudden-death rounds until resolved.

16

Substitutions & Fair Play

Allow substitutions between matches and during stoppages per safety rules. Encourage sportsmanship; penalize deliberate fouls by awarding free points or possession to the opponent depending on the match rules.
