Garnishes & Finishes

Method

Cocktails - General

1

Mise en place

Chill glasses in the freezer for at least 15 minutes. Juice lemons and limes and measure spirits and liqueurs. Place ice in freezer if you prefer extra-cold cubes.

2

Classic Martini (serving base)

In a mixing glass filled with ice, combine 2 oz gin and 0.5 oz dry vermouth. Stir gently for 20–30 seconds until well chilled. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a lemon twist or olive.

3

Signature Lemon-Vodka Fizz

In a shaker, combine 2 oz vodka, 1 oz fresh lemon juice (about 2 tbsp), 0.5 oz simple syrup (1 tbsp), and 2–3 fresh mint leaves. Add ice and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds. Double-strain into a highball glass filled with fresh ice. Top with 3 oz chilled club soda. Gently slap a mint sprig to release aroma and garnish with a lemon wheel.

4

Citrus Rum Punch

In a shaker with ice, combine 2 oz white rum, 0.75 oz orange liqueur, 1 oz fresh lemon juice (2 tbsp), 0.5 oz fresh lime juice (1 tbsp), and 0.5 oz simple syrup. Shake 8–10 seconds until chilled. Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass. Garnish with an orange peel and a maraschino cherry. Optionally rim the glass with sugar before pouring by moistening the rim with a lime wedge and dipping in sugar.

5

Manhattan-style (sweet)

In a mixing glass with ice combine 2 oz bourbon or rye (substitute from general spirits if desired), 1 oz sweet vermouth, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters. Stir 25–30 seconds until properly diluted and chilled. Strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with a maraschino cherry or orange peel. (Note: bourbon/rye not listed in base quantities — scale from available spirits or add separately if making multiple.)

6

Aperitif Spritz

In a wine glass filled with ice, add 1.5 oz sweet vermouth, 1 oz orange liqueur, and top with 3 oz club soda. Stir lightly and garnish with an orange peel.

7

Serving multiple guests

The quantities in Ingredients provide enough to make multiple of the above cocktails for a small group. Keep mixers (juices, simple syrup, sodas) chilled and spirits at room temp or chilled as preferred. Replenish ice frequently and adjust sweet/sour balance (simple syrup vs citrus) to taste for each drink.

Garnishes & Finishes

8

Prepare garnishes: twist lemon and orange peels by holding rind over the glass and giving a quick twist to express oils. Slice lime wheels and reserve. Place maraschino cherries in a small bowl for easy skewering.

9

Rimming glass: rub a lime wedge around the glass rim, dip into sugar (or salt) spread on a small plate, then let dry 30 seconds before pouring the cocktail.

10

Final touch: add 1–2 dashes Angostura bitters to the surface of stirred cocktails (like the Manhattan) for aroma. For shaken, citrus-forward drinks, slap fresh mint between palms and place on top as garnish.
