Popcorn (buttery, kid-friendly)
Unlimited soft drinks (ready-to-serve)
Service and packaging (per child)
Method
Popcorn (buttery, kid-friendly)
Heat oil and test
Place a large heavy-bottomed pot with a tight-fitting lid over medium heat. Add 2 tbs vegetable oil and 2–3 popcorn kernels. Cover and wait until the test kernels pop (about 1–2 minutes). This indicates the oil is hot enough.
Finish popping
Listen for popping to slow to about 2–3 seconds between pops (3–4 minutes total). Remove the pot from the heat promptly to avoid burning. Carefully remove the lid to allow steam to escape.
Butter and season
Melt 2 tbs unsalted butter (microwave or small saucepan). Drizzle melted butter over the popped corn while gently tossing with a large spoon or by tipping the pot and shaking with the lid slightly ajar. Sprinkle 1 tsp fine salt and 1 tsp granulated sugar (optional) evenly while tossing so seasoning coats the popcorn. Taste and adjust salt or sugar to the children's preference.
Portion
Spoon the finished popcorn into the large paper popcorn cup or bag for each child. Serve immediately to preserve crunch.
Unlimited soft drinks (ready-to-serve)
Select drinks
Offer the child a choice of cola, lemon-lime soda, or fruit punch / juice-based soda. For unlimited service, prepare multiple cups or have a refill station set up.
Refills
For unlimited refills, keep soda chilled in bottles or a dispenser. When refilling, dump or strain out melted ice water if necessary, top with fresh ice, and refill with soda to maintain carbonation and flavor.
Service and packaging
Give each child one filled popcorn cup or bag and one disposable cup with lid and straw. Provide napkins. Monitor refills and replenish popcorn and soda as requested to maintain the 'unlimited' offering while preventing waste (suggest smaller initial portions and quick refills).
