Method
Prep and Assembly
Chill and prep
Remove cheeses, cured meats, and hummus from the refrigerator 20–30 minutes before assembly so flavors and textures soften. This brings out aromas and makes slicing and spreading easier.
Slice and arrange cheeses
Trim rind only if desired. Cut the aged cheddar into 1cm-thick slices or small cubes for easy picking. Leave the brie whole or partially cut a wedge and score the top for guests; place it where you might drizzle honey. Crumble or leave whole the goat cheese log and transfer each cheese to its own area on the board.
Prep meats
Fold prosciutto slices into loose ribbons or roll them for height. Fan or overlap slices of salami and soppressata in separate clusters. Keep portions small so guests can mix and match (about 30–50g per meat pile).
Prep spreads and condiments
Spoon hummus into a small bowl and place on the board. Transfer fig jam and whole grain mustard into small ramekins. Drizzle 1 tsp olive oil and a pinch of cracked black pepper over the brie if desired. Place honey in a small pour bowl or jar with a spoon for drizzling.
Arrange nuts and garnishes
Scatter toasted nuts in small clusters to fill gaps and add crunch. Tuck fresh herb sprigs and microgreens or edible flowers around the board for color and aroma.
Assemble the board
Start by placing cheeses in different positions on the board to anchor the layout. Add small bowls/ramekins with hummus, jam, mustard, olives, and pickles near relevant cheeses and crackers. Position meats next to cheeses they pair with or opposite to create balance. Fill remaining spaces with fruit clusters, crackers, bread slices, dried fruit, and nuts. Add final garnishes and any extra utensils (cheese knives, spoons, picks).
