Method

Prepare glass

  1. 1

    Chill glass (optional)

If desired, chill the glass in the refrigerator or freezer for 10–15 minutes before serving to keep the soda colder longer.

  2. 2

Place the highball or fountain glass on a flat surface.

Assemble drink

  1. 3

    Add ice

Add 4–6 ice cubes to the glass, leaving room for the soda to be poured without overflowing.

  2. 4

    Pour soda

Open a 12 fl oz bottle or can of Coca‑Cola. Tilt the glass slightly and pour the Coca‑Cola slowly down the side to preserve carbonation and reduce foaming, filling to about 1/4 inch (6 mm) from the rim.

  3. 5

    Garnish (optional)

If using garnishes, slide a lemon or lime wedge onto the rim or squeeze lightly into the soda before dropping it in. Add a maraschino cherry and/or a mint sprig for aroma. Stir gently once with a long spoon or serve with a straw.

Serve

  1. 6

Serve immediately while cold. Refresh ice or add more soda as needed. Dispose of any uneaten drink after a few hours as carbonation and flavor will degrade.
