Method
For the drink
- 1
Simple whole milk (served cold)
Chill 1 cup whole milk in the refrigerator until cold. Pour the cold milk into a clean glass and serve immediately. If desired, add 0.25 tsp vanilla extract and stir gently.
- 2
Warm whole milk
Pour 1 cup whole milk into a small saucepan. Warm over low heat, stirring occasionally, until steam rises and the milk is hot but not boiling (about 3–5 minutes). Remove from heat and serve in a cup. Optionally stir in 0.25 tsp vanilla extract.
- 3
Chocolate milk (cold)
Place 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup into a glass. Add 1 cup cold whole milk. Stir vigorously for 15–30 seconds until chocolate is fully incorporated. Taste; if you prefer sweeter chocolate milk, add up to 1–2 tsp granulated sugar and stir until dissolved. Add 4 ice cubes if you want it extra cold.

Chocolate milk (warm)
Pour 1 cup whole milk into a small saucepan and warm over low heat until hot but not boiling (3–5 minutes). Remove from heat, whisk in 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup until smooth. Taste and add up to 1–2 tsp granulated sugar if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes on proportions and substitutions
Use 2 tbs chocolate syrup per 1 cup milk as a standard ratio. Adjust syrup to taste for a lighter or richer chocolate flavor. For a thicker, creamier drink, use whole milk; for a lighter version, substitute reduced-fat or plant-based milk (adjust sweetness as needed).
