Cocktail
Tools & Serving
Method
Prepare Glass
- 1
Chill a martini or coupe glass in the freezer for at least 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to ensure it stays cold.
Mix Cocktail
- 2
Measure and combine
In a cocktail shaker, pour 2 oz Absolut vodka, 1 oz Kahlúa, and 1.5 oz Owens Nitro Espresso Mix. If you prefer a slightly sweeter drink, add 0.25 oz simple syrup.
- 3
Add ice
Add approximately 1 cup of ice to the shaker—enough to chill and dilute the cocktail properly but not so much that it over-dilutes while shaking.
- 4
Dry shake (optional)
For a richer, foamier crema, close the shaker and dry-shake (without ice) vigorously for 10–12 seconds, then add ice and proceed to the next step. If you prefer a quicker method, skip this step and proceed with a wet shake.
- 5
Wet shake
Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds. Aim for a rapid, hard shake so the nitro espresso and liqueur emulsify and create a silky crema on top.
- 6
Double strain
Remove the glass from the freezer or discard the ice water. Using the shaker strainer and, if available, a fine mesh strainer, pour the cocktail into the chilled martini/coupe glass to remove small ice chips and ensure a smooth surface and clean crema.
Garnish & Serve
- 7
Garnish the finished Espresso Martini with three coffee beans placed on the surface in a triangle. Serve immediately while cold and the crema is fresh.
