Mojito Base

Mint & Muddling

Method

Mojito Base

  1. 1

    Measure

Measure 2 oz white rum, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.5 oz simple syrup and set them aside.

Mint & Muddling

  1. 2

    Prepare mint

Place 8 fresh mint leaves in a sturdy highball glass or mixing glass. Reserve one mint sprig for garnish.

  2. 3

    Muddle gently

Using a muddler or the back of a spoon, gently press the mint leaves 6–8 times to release their oils. Avoid over-muddling to prevent bitterness.

Combine & Chill

  1. 4

    Add liquids

Add the measured lime juice and simple syrup to the muddled mint, then pour in the 2 oz white rum.

  2. 5

    Stir or shake

Option A (built): Fill the glass with crushed ice, then stir vigorously about 10–12 seconds to chill and combine. Option B (shaken): Add the mixture to a cocktail shaker with a handful of ice, shake briefly (6–8 seconds), then strain back into a glass filled with crushed ice.

Ice & Soda

  1. 6

    Top with soda

Top the drink with about 2 oz club soda (adjust to taste) and give a gentle final stir to lift mint and distribute soda.

Garnish & Finish

  1. 7

    Garnish

Garnish with the reserved mint sprig (slap it once between your palms to release aroma) and a lime wheel or wedge on the rim. Optionally add 1 dash of Angostura bitters on top for an aromatic note.

  2. 8

    Serve

Serve immediately with a short straw. Encourage the drinker to stir occasionally to keep flavors balanced.
