Classic Margarita Cocktail
Method
Prepare Glass
- 1
Rim the glass
Rub a lime wedge around the outer rim of a chilled coupe or rocks glass. Spread the coarse salt on a small plate and press the wet rim lightly into the salt to coat. Set the glass aside.
Mix Cocktail
- 2
Measure and combine
Add 2 oz blanco tequila, 1 oz triple sec, 1 oz fresh lime juice and 0.25 oz simple syrup (omit if you prefer a drier margarita) into a cocktail shaker.
- 3
Add ice
Fill the shaker with enough ice to come about three-quarters full (roughly 1 cup).
- 4
Shake
Secure the shaker and shake vigorously for 10β15 seconds until the exterior of the shaker is very cold and slightly frosted. This chills and dilutes the drink to the proper balance.
- 5
Strain
Double-strain (with the shaker's built-in strainer or a fine mesh strainer) into the prepared glass. For a rocks-style Margarita, strain over fresh ice; for a straight-up/coupe serve, strain without ice.
Garnish & Serve
- 6
Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim. Serve immediately and enjoy.
