Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Chill glass (optional)

Fill a highball or tall glass with ice or place in the freezer for a few minutes to chill while you prepare the cocktail.

  2. 2

Fill a cocktail shaker or mixing glass with ice cubes.

  3. 3

Add vodka, tomato juice, fresh lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco (hot sauce), prepared horseradish, and pickle juice (if using) to the shaker.

  4. 4

Add a pinch of celery salt and a pinch of freshly ground black pepper.

  5. 5

Secure the shaker lid and roll or shake gently 8–10 seconds. Rolling (pouring back and forth between two vessels) lightly chills and mixes without overly diluting; a brief shake is acceptable for a frothier top.

  6. 6

Discard the ice or water from the chilled serving glass if you used it to chill. Fill the glass with fresh ice.

  7. 7

Strain the mixed Bloody Mary into the prepared glass over fresh ice.

  8. 8

Taste and adjust seasoning: add another dash of Tabasco for heat, a few drops of Worcestershire for depth, more lemon juice for brightness, or a tiny pinch more celery salt if needed. Stir gently to combine.

Garnish & Serve

  1. 9

Garnish with a celery stalk and a lemon wedge on the rim. Optionally skewer and add a green olive.

  2. 10

Serve immediately with a stirrer or straw.
