Boozy Coffee

Sweetened Cream Topping

Method

Boozy Coffee

  1. 1

    Brew and combine

Brew 1 cup (240 ml) of very strong hot coffee. While coffee is hot, pour it into a preheated heatproof mug. Add 1 fl oz Bailey's Irish Cream and 1/2 fl oz Frangelico to the coffee. Stir gently for 10–15 seconds until the liqueurs are evenly incorporated and the drink is slightly creamy.

  2. 2

Taste and adjust. If you prefer a sweeter or stronger hazelnut note, add another 1/4 fl oz Frangelico (optional). Stir again.

Sweetened Cream Topping

  1. 3

    Whip the cream

In a small chilled bowl, combine 2 tablespoons heavy cream, 1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar, and 1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract. Whisk briskly by hand (or use a small electric whisk) until the cream thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon but is still pourable — soft peaks are not needed, you want a light cream to float.

  2. 4

Spoon or gently float the sweetened cream on top of the coffee mixture. The cream should rest on the surface forming a visible layer.

Garnish

  1. 5

Sprinkle about 1 teaspoon finely grated dark chocolate or chocolate shavings over the cream. If using, place a single toasted hazelnut on the cream or on the rim for presentation.

  2. 6

Serve immediately with a long-handled spoon so the drinker can scoop cream with each sip.
