Cocktail
Optional - For Serving
Method
Cocktail
- 1
Chill glass
Place a coupe or rocks glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to chill it.
- 2
If you prefer a sugared rim, rub an orange wedge around the glass lip and dip the rim in a shallow dish of sugar. Tap off excess.
- 3
Add Grand Marnier, fresh orange juice, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup and a dash of Angostura bitters into a cocktail shaker.
- 4
Fill the shaker with ice (about 6 pieces) and secure the lid.
- 5
Shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is very cold and well aerated (this both chills and slightly dilutes the drink).
- 6
Discard ice or water from the chilled glass. Strain the cocktail through a fine strainer (or the shaker strainer) into the chilled coupe or over a large ice cube in a rocks glass, depending on how you want to serve it.
- 7
Express the oils of an orange twist over the drink (hold twist over the surface and give it a firm pinch) and drop the twist into the glass as garnish.
- 8
Serve immediately. Sip and enjoy the bright orange-cognac flavors balanced with citrus and a touch of sweetness.
Optional - On the Rocks
- 9
If serving on the rocks, place a large ice cube in a rocks glass and pour the strained cocktail over it instead of into a chilled coupe.
