Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare glass

Place a large mixing glass and an old-fashioned glass (or rocks glass) nearby. Add one large ice cube to the serving glass to chill it while you mix.

  2. 2

    Stir cocktail

Add 2 oz bonded (or rye) whiskey, 1 oz Benedictine liqueur, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters into the mixing glass filled with plenty of ice. Stir gently for 20–30 seconds until well chilled and properly diluted (about 15–20% dilution).

  3. 3

    Strain and serve

Discard the chilling ice from the serving glass, if you prefer, then strain the stirred mixture into the chilled old-fashioned glass over the large ice cube (or neat into a chilled coupe if preferred).

  4. 4

    Garnish

Express the oils of an orange twist over the surface of the drink by holding the peel skin-side down and giving it a firm bend. Rub the rim with the twist, then drop it into the glass as garnish.

  5. 5

    Serve immediately and enjoy.
