Tea option

Method

Tea option

  1. 1

    Boil water

Measure 1 cup of fresh cold water and bring it to a rolling boil in a kettle or small saucepan.

  2. 2

    Prepare tea

If using a tea bag, place it in your mug. If using loose tea, put 1 tsp loose tea into a teapot or an infuser placed in the mug.

  3. 3

    Steep

Pour the boiling water over the tea. Steep for 3–5 minutes depending on desired strength (3 minutes for lighter, 5 for stronger).

  4. 4

    Finish

Remove the tea bag or strain out loose leaves. Add 2 tbsp milk and 1 tsp sugar if desired, or a slice of lemon (do not add lemon if you added milk). Stir and serve hot.

Coffee option

  1. 5

    Boil water

Measure 1 cup of fresh cold water and heat to near boiling (about 95–98°C / 203–208°F) in a kettle or saucepan.

  2. 6

    Prepare coffee

If using a drip method, place 1 tbs ground coffee in a filter and pour hot water over slowly. If using a French press, add grounds to the carafe.

  3. 7

    Brew

For drip pour-over: pour water evenly over grounds allowing coffee to drip into the cup or server. For French press: pour hot water over grounds, stir gently, cover and let steep for 4 minutes, then press the plunger down slowly.

  4. 8

    Finish

Pour coffee into a mug. Add 2 tbsp milk and 1 tsp sugar or sweetener to taste if desired. Stir and serve hot.

Cleanup & tips

  1. 9

Discard used tea leaves, tea bags, or coffee grounds (they can be composted). Rinse and wash your kettle, teapot, mug, and any filters or press parts. Adjust tea steeping time or coffee grind/quantity to preference for future brews.
