In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Season the chicken thighs with salt and black pepper. When the oil is hot, add the chicken, skin-side down, and sear for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown. Flip and sear the other side for another 5 minutes. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.

In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and add the garlic, onion, bell pepper, and carrot. Sauté for about 5 minutes until the vegetables are softened.

Pour in the diced tomatoes, red wine, and chicken broth. Stir well to combine, scraping up any brown bits from the bottom of the skillet.

Return the seared chicken thighs to the skillet, ensuring they are submerged in the sauce. Sprinkle with red pepper flakes and fresh basil.

Cover the skillet with a lid and let the dish simmer on low heat for about 30-35 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and tender. Stir occasionally.

Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning with additional salt, black pepper, or red pepper flakes as desired.
