Method

Preparation of Brown Butter

  1. 1

    Brown the Butter

In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the butter foams and then turns a golden brown color, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Mixing the Cocktail

  1. 2

    Combine Ingredients

In a mixing glass, add 1 oz of 400 Conejos Mezcal, 1 oz of Woodford Reserve Rye Whiskey, 0.5 oz of agave syrup, 2 dashes of chocolate bitters, and 2 dashes of orange bitters.

  2. 3

    Add Brown Butter

Strain the brown butter into the mixing glass, leaving the solids behind.

  3. 4

    Stir the Mixture

Fill the mixing glass with ice and stir gently for about 30 seconds until well chilled.

Serving the Cocktail

  1. 5

    Strain and Serve

Using a fine mesh strainer, strain the mixture into a chilled cocktail glass.

  2. 6

    Garnish

Express the oils from the orange peel over the surface of the drink and drop it into the glass as a garnish.
