Tommy's Margarita

Method

Tommy's Margarita

  1. 1

    Prepare the glass (optional)

If you prefer a salted rim, run a lime wedge around the glass rim, then dip the rim into a shallow plate of coarse salt so it adheres evenly. Fill the glass with ice to chill while you make the cocktail.

  2. 2

    Measure and combine

Add 2 oz reposado tequila, 1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice, and 0.5 oz agave syrup into a cocktail shaker or mixing tin.

  3. 3

    Add ice and shake

Add about 1 cup of ice to the shaker. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds (until the shaker feels cold and the outside frosts). This chills, dilutes slightly, and integrates the agave.

  4. 4

    Strain and serve

Discard the ice used to chill the glass (if used). Fill the serving glass with fresh ice. Double-strain the shaken cocktail over the fresh ice to remove small shards of ice and any pulp.

  5. 5

    Garnish and finish

Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim. Serve immediately. Taste and, if desired, adjust sweetness for future pours by increasing or decreasing agave syrup by 0.25 oz increments.
