Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place a coupe or chilled cocktail glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the drink to properly chill it.

2

Combine ingredients

In a mixing glass or shaker filled with ice (about 1 cup), add 2 oz rum, 0.75 oz dry vermouth, 0.5 oz orange curaçao, 0.25 oz grenadine, and 2 dashes orange bitters.

3

Stir

Stir the mixture briskly with a bar spoon for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full turns) until well chilled and slightly diluted — the drink should feel cold to the outside of the mixing glass.

4

Prepare glass

Remove the chilled coupe or cocktail glass from the freezer or discard the ice water and dry the glass.

5

Strain

Double-strain the chilled cocktail into the prepared glass using a julep strainer and a fine mesh strainer (or just a julep/ Hawthorne if you don't have a fine strainer) to keep out small ice chips.

6

Garnish and serve

Express the oils of an orange twist over the drink by pinching it skin-side down above the surface, then rub the twist around the rim and drop it into the cocktail as a garnish. Serve immediately.
