Method
Cocktail Base
Chill glass (optional)
Place a martini or coupe glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes, or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to ensure the drink stays very cold.
Combine ingredients
Add 1 oz dry gin and 1 oz dry vermouth to a mixing glass or cocktail shaker. If you like a whisper of bitters, add 1 dash of Angostura or orange bitters now.
Strain
Using a julep strainer or the shaker’s built-in strainer, strain the chilled martini into the chilled martini or coupe glass, leaving the ice behind.
Finish & Garnish
Garnish & serve
Express the oils of a lemon twist over the surface of the cocktail by holding the twist skin-side down about 2–3 inches above the glass and giving it a quick squeeze, then rub the rim with the peel and drop it in. Alternatively, garnish with a single green olive on a pick. Serve immediately.
