Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Muddle

In a sturdy mixing glass or shaker, place the fresh mint leaves (reserve the sprig for garnish) and fresh lime juice. Add the blackberry syrup. Gently muddle 6–8 of the mint leaves and the syrup with a muddler or the back of a spoon just until the oils are released and the mixture is fragrant. Do not over-muddle (which can cause bitterness).

  2. 2

    Combine

Add the Don Q Limón rum, wildberry purée, and 4 ice cubes to the shaker. Cap and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until well chilled and the purée is incorporated.

  3. 3

    Assemble

Fill a highball or Collins glass with crushed ice (about 1 cup). Strain the shaken mixture over the crushed ice, pressing with the strainer to get most of the liquid and purée out. If you prefer a bit more texture, use a fine mesh strainer to hold back seeds.

  4. 4

    Top & Stir

Gently top the drink with about 3 oz club soda. Using a bar spoon, give the drink 2–3 gentle stirs from bottom to top to lift the mint and combine the soda without flattening it.

  5. 5

    Garnish

Thread 3 fresh blackberries onto a cocktail pick (or drop them in the glass), add the reserved mint sprig and a lemon wheel on the rim. Optionally slap the mint sprig between your palms first to activate the aroma. Serve with a straw and enjoy.
